Mens Championship Singles 2017-18

Gavin Bransgrove

Gavin won the club lawn bowls singles final this year in a 26-22 nail biter against Mike Kelly.
It was a see-sawing affair where the lead was close to changing a number of times, both players producing classy shots to keep the score line epic and tight.
Gavin held a slim lead for most of the match and withheld a late fight back from Mike, who was one of the 2018 clubs pair’s champions.
Both players went in to the match determined to add their name to the clubs honour board.
Well done to both players for their excellent show of bowling skills and gamesmanship.

Ladies Championship Singles 2017-18

Linda Gray

Again, after some great games in the preliminary rounds, the two finalists, Helen Robinson and Linda Gray took to the Battle Field on Sunday 17th December to decide who was to be the Women’s Champion for 2017/18.
What a great final, Linda on 24 and Helen on 21 holding 3 to create a thrilling last end, but not to be out done Linda drew her last bowl to close out the game and emerged triumphant!
Well done and congratulations Linda and well done Helen, a great achievement to reach the finals.

Mens Championship Pairs 2017-18

Greg Nicholls & Mike Kelly

Sunday morning the 17th December, saw the final battle of the Men’s Pairs. Again, there had been some fabulous games in the preliminary rounds but, wow, what a game the final turned out to be! The finalists were Greg Nicholls and Mike Kelly playing Gavin Bransgrove and Don McCracken.
What an excellent show of bowling skills and gamesmanship on both sides. It went down to the wire, 18 all on 17 ends with only millimetres separating shot and the opposing teams bowl. All four players played an exceptional game. On many ends a bowls mat over the head would have covered the majority of the bowls played. However, only one side could claim victory and that was Greg Nicholls and Mike Kelly. It was a game of incredibly high quality and although Greg and Mike must be congratulated on a magnificent win, all four must be congratulated on the skills they exhibited.
