Business for the AGM - Friday 11th May 2007, 7pm

The following motions have been received and will be discussed and voted on at the AGM.

Motion 1
: That members nominating to play Pennant on a regular basis commit to the following conditions:
  • Sign a commitment of understanding with an undertaking to:

    • Commit to 15 of 18 possible home and away games (finals have not been included)

    • Provide at least 1 weeks notice of unavailability on the list provided

    • Where adequate notice of unavailability is not given, accept that re-admittance to the team upon return will most likely be in a lower position and/or team than would normally be expected

  • Must be financial (fully or partially) no later than 1st September each year to be eligible for selection

  • Consideration will be given under special circumstances

Rationale:

  • To foster club loyalty from each individual

  • To allow the match committee to enter and select teams with confidence

  • To ensure a level of self discipline is maintained – if you're unavailable, tell us. Don't let your team down

  • To ascertain a realistic number of players that can be drawn from during the season. If you don't make this commitment and a 3rd team is not entered you will understand the position of the committee after entering 3 teams last year and having the 3rd team forfeit approximately 12 games

  • This commitment will be the sole basis upon which the general committee bases its decision on how many Pennant team are to be entered. We would like to avoid the situation encountered in 2006/07 where the 3rd team forfeited so often

Note:

  • Not agreeing to the commitment will not preclude you from playing some Pennant matches. However, it does mean the committee will not be relying on you each week and will not include you in the figures used to determine how many Pennant teams to enter

Motion 2: That the club take the logo of the Tiger

Rationale:

  • To foster a sense of club and community

  • To identify with the majority of the other sporting clubs in the Upwey-Tecoma area

  • To become the bowling club of choice for members of the other Upwey-Tecoma “Tiger” sporting clubs once they retire from active participation in those sports

Motion 3: That the committee undertake to design and purchase coloured shirts using available sponsorship and grant funding and ensure the cost to members does not exceed $15 per member

Rationale: To design and provide coloured, BA approved shirts to the membership to ensure consistency in uniform. One short sleeve shirt will be provided to all existing members. New members will be required to purchase a shirt and all members may purchase extra shirts as required

Also, here are a couple of photos of the Pennant Presentation made prior to the Quarter final played against Yarraville-Footscray at Burwood. Well done to the top team on a great result this season.

Nominations have closed

Nominations for the RVBA Section Committee and Committee of Management have now closed. All positions were nominated uncontested. This means those people nominating for those committees will be assuming those roles at the AGM on Friday 11th May 2007. The office bearers for 2007/08 will be announced at the AGM.

While it is good that we have enough people on the committees it is disappointing to see so few members taking an active interest in the running of their club. There are plenty of opportunities to help out - so please stick your hand up and volunteer to help with afternoon teas for Pennant or serve behind the bar or other such tasks that don't take too much of your time. Your club needs you.

The one area where there is a contest is the Match Committee. There are 3 positions available and there are 5 nominees. All members eligible to vote will be receiving their ballot form in the post soon (if you haven't already). Please take the (little) time to complete the form and either drop it in the ballot box in the club OR stick a stamp on the return address envelope and send it back. If you don't vote then you've got no right to whinge about their decisions. This is your chance to have a say. Maybe you could nominate next year!

Final Reminder - AGM Business Items

If you have a motion you'd like to raise or some other business item you'd like discussed among the membership at the AGM, you have until 5pm on Friday 20th April 2007 to have that business to the Secretary. Otherwise you'll need to wait until next year or gather enough support to have a Special General Meeting at some other time.

It's your club, so if there's something you'd like changed - SPEAK UP!

Monday Night Bowls Competition

Thinking of something to do on Monday nights during the Pennant off-season?

Beginning tonight (Monday 16th April 2007) and running right through the off-season, Upwey-Tecoma Bowls Club is once again proud to run a Monday Night Bowls competition.

$5 a head for registered bowlers gets you a light supper before the game and a 15 end game of 2 bowl triples. Sides are drawn not nominated.

The matches will be played on our brand spanking new sand-filled, rubber-backed synthetic green under the equally new upgraded lighting system!

Nestled in the idyllic surrounds of the Dandenong Ranges foothills, it's always a pleasant evening on the greens and great company is assured.

Experienced bowlers, novices, first-timers, visitors and guests are all welcome. 7pm supper for a 7.30pm roll-up.

For further information just leave a comment on this post or contact Andrew Walters or Neil Thurling.

Annual General Meeting

The call for nominations for positions on the Bowls and General Committees has now closed. These nominations will now be audited and if a ballot is required, members will receive a ballot paper in the near future.

If these nominations for each position are uncontested, the nominees will assume their positions at the coming Annual General Meeting on Friday 11th May 2007.

And you may have noticed a new look to the website. This is the new frontpage and it is in the format of a weblog (or blog). This will make it simpler and quicker to post news and comments when things happen. It also allows you to leave a comment on any of the items posted.
